Soul Surfer Reaction Day 1

Today I started reading Soul Surfer. This book is about a young surfer who had a tragic accident, a shark attack, doing the one thing she loves, surfing. The surfer is Bethany Hamilton. In the first two chapters, it portrayed her love for surfing and the daily life she lived. This life consisted of home, schooling and surfing. She also told us the top spots to surf in Hawaii, where she lives, and the daily life there. She also told the readers about her background and that her parents have the same love for surfing she does. They grew up surfing and followed their dream of  surfing by moving to Kauai, Hawaii where they met. They were also the ones that taught Bethany to surf and still surf and teach her today. The chapters I read today related to me and my family. They related because my family has always been athletic and enjoyed doing sports. Instead of surfing, the sport my family loves is wrestling. My mom's family and my dad's family grew up around wrestling. Like the book, my parents were also brought together by wrestling. Although it was not me personally being the one to share this sport my parents have passed their love and knowledge of other sports down to me. My mom's dad and my dad have passed their love of wrestling down to my brother and have taught him everything he knows. They have all shared the love together and worked hard to pursue their dreams. This is similar to Bethany Hamilton family's  love for surfing.  I really enjoyed the book today and look forward to reading the rest and learning of Bethany's life, her tragic story, and her love and dedication to surfing.
This is a picture of Bethany Hamilton, Tom (her dad), Cheri (her mom), and Ginger ( her dog). These are the people I learned at length of today in the book and the love they have for one another.
